Abstract

Studies on evaluation of biocontrol agents against Meloidogyne arenaria on groundnut under glasshouse conditions revealed that application of Pseudomonas fluorescens as seed treatment+soil application recorded significant increase in plant growth characters and groundnut pod yield compared to untreated control. Groundnut plants treated with P. fluorescens as both seed treatment+soil application recorded least number of galls/plant, egg mass/plant, eggs/egg-mass and soil population/200 g soil with corresponding reduction of 70.9, 34.4, 20.3 and 68.1 per cent, respectively, over untreated control. It was followed by P. fluorescens as soil application alone and carbofuran in reducing the ischolar_main knot nematode infection in groundnut.

Abstract

Investigations were carried out under glasshouse conditions to study the effect of different methods of application of Pseudomonas fluorescens Migula for the management of Meloidogyne graminicola Golden and Birchfield infecting rice. The plant growth promoting bacterium P. fluorescens was applied as seed treatment, soil application and a combination of both seed and soil application. Dual application of P. fluorescens both as seed treatment and soil application proved to be the most effective treatment with highest reduction of 60.18 per cent in nematode population in ischolar_main and soil, and enhanced growth of rice seedlings. Colonization of P. fluorescens was the highest in ischolar_mains (36.76 % 10⁸ cfu/g) receiving the bacterium through seed treatment and soil application.

Abstract

Greenhouse studies were conducted to evaluate the biocontrol potential of the parasitic fungus Paecilomyces lilacinus (Thorn.) Samson, against the ischolar_main-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita (Kofoid and White 1919) Chitwood 1949 in banana. Application of P.lilacinus (multiplied in neem cake) @ 15 or 20 g/plant significantly reduced tbe ischolar_main gall index, egg masses, eggs, females and soil population of the nematode. The fungus penetrated the egg masses and egg masses contained only empty eggshells. Significant increase in plant growth was observed by application of P. lilacinus. The biological control treatment was comparable with carbofuran @ 40 g/plant.

Abstract

A wireless sensor network (WSN) is absolutely an ad hoc wireless telecommunication networks arranged in an extensive area with little, limited-power tidy sensor nodes. The WSN incorporates all unprocessed data sent from sensor devices under wire/wireless telecommunication transportation arranged in an extensive area, and generates a set of sensed environmental data to relate with real application services. LEACH (Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) is one of the most significant cluster-based routing protocols which have been extensively used in WSN. LEACH exploits a TDMA dependent MAC protocol, and with the purpose of maintaining reasonable energy utilization, recommends that each node probabilistically turns into a cluster head. Clusterhead is chosen by its adjacent networks. Clusterhead selection turns out to be an important problem because of its dynamic environment. With the intention of reducing the energy utilization, in this paper, proposed an enhancement on the Leach Protocol that further improves the Power utilization. The fuzzy logic technique for clusterhead selection is proposed in this paper based on three descriptors, namely, Energy, Concentration and Density. Simulation result confirms that the proposed protocol outperforms Leach protocol in term of energy utilization and considerably increases the overall throughput.
